NEW YORK, March 13 - The dollar extended gains versus a basket of currencies to hit a seven-month peak in mid-morning trade on Wednesday after U.S. unexpectedly strong retail sales data boosted optimism about the U.S. economy.
The dollar index rose as high as 83.013 on Reuters data, the strongest since Aug. 3. The index was last up 0.5 percent at 82.973.
