RIO DE JANEIRO, Sept 3 (Reuters) - Brazil posted a trade surplus of $3.227 billion in August, the Trade Ministry said on Monday, shrinking from the same month last year as the weak economy hit trade flows.
Still, the result was above the $2.9 billion figure posted in July and topped analysts' median forecast for a $3 billion surplus.
In the first eight months of the year, Brazil's trade surplus fell 34.1 percent compared with the same period last year. Brazil had a trade surplus of $3.893 billion in August of 2011.
A slow recovery of activity at home and economic woes abroad have curbed Brazilian exports, as well as imports into the world's No. 6 economy.
