TOKYO, July 23 (Reuters) - Bank of Japan Governor Masaaki Shirakawa said he had a frank exchange of views with Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda in a meeting earlier on Monday but declined to disclose what they discussed.
Shirakawa made the remarks to reporters after the two met at a hotel in Tokyo. The meeting lasted about an hour. The prime minister and the central bank head meet from time to time but there is no set schedule.
In the past year, Japanese policymakers have pressured the BOJ to take action as the nation struggles with a strong yen and slowing global demand and the central bank has subsequently taken easing steps.
The BOJ this month held off on further policy easing despite slowing global growth that has driven other major central banks into expanding stimulus, convinced that strengthening domestic demand will keep Japan's economic recovery on track.
